This post is just an idea of mine. It’s not science. It’s certainly not medical advice. It’s meant for someone who is contemplating using lower carb intake to address weight loss or any other health and happiness goal they have for this new year.
Many are overwhelmed by even the idea of making a major change. Change is scary to many, maybe even to most people.
So to keep it simple I have a suggestion. Don’t change a thing that you eat or do.
That’s right. To begin, just count. But this time do not count calories or measure how much your food weighs or how many bites you take. Or how many meals you eat a day. Or when you eat during the day. Or any other silly thing that never helped anyone for very long, if at all.
Just count the carbs in every single thing you eat every day. Do that every day for a week or so. Then find the average number of the carbs you consume in a day.
Cut the number in half. Then strive to eat only that many for the next week or so. (If 1/2 is too scary, lower the percentage.)
Then see for yourself what, if anything, changed in your whole condition. That’s all, nothing more.
Then if you would be so kind please let me know the results, if any.
Important note:
If you are taking medications for diabetes or blood pressure you should monitor yourself carefully because it’s possible that you could suffer from overmedication. Ideally you should inform your doctor of your change in carb intake.
I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice and I am unqualified to judge the effects of this small intervention.
Thanks for reading this.

Excellent advice, I started lower carbs this time last year, a bit scary but I soon got the hang of it especially when I found low carb bagels! Because I didn’t miss rice, pasta or even potatoes but man no bread is hard. I tried making my own, it was like eating cardboard.
Now here is the interesting bit, I was fainting in my yoga class, I knew I had lost weight and I suspected my blood pressure medication was now too high. Went to my Dr and sure enough my BP was 120/70 I said no wonder I’m fainting in class, she said you want your BP low! What I’m concerned about is your sky high cholesterol you need to be on statins. I said I’m aware my cholesterol will be higher because of my change in diet but I have lost weight, lowered my BP and cut my arthritis medication by 1/3. I feel great and I am cutting my BP in 1/2 because 120/70 for a 70 year old woman is way too low for me.
She said well you have obviously made up your mind and you are refusing statins so there is not much else to say. I’m now look for another Dr.
