I’m guessing that most of the people who read this newsletter are diabetic, whether they know it or not and even if their doctor told them they weren’t diabetic based on a Hba1c test.*
Many, if not most, of the our readers are obese. That was the most likely the reason they ended up seeking the information found here. But given that obesity is generally no longer considered causative of diabetes, but rather associated closely with it, it’s imperative that they determine if they actually have the disease. In my opinion, it’s pretty much accepted that both obesity and type 2 diabetes are caused by the same thing. Namely, metabolic disease and the resultant insulin resistance.
So we all know that getting our glucose levels under control is paramount if we are to improve our health and avoid the horrific complications that accompany it.
However, most of us have been laboring under the understandable misconception that how we lower our A1c is unimportant. According to Dr. Mariela Glandt, that belief turns out to be incorrect.
In this video conversation, Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Glandt discuss the issue. I think it may be helpful for us to learn from their conversation. Please let me know if you learned anything or enjoyed the discussion. It can be a tad wonk-ish for beginners but it’s pretty straight forward even for them.
It’s an hour long, but we are here to learn. So let’s get to it.
* more on that in another post. If anyone would like to have a post about that subject, sooner rather than later, please drop me a comment or an email.
